Frequently Asked Questions
What is BeggarChooser?
-
BeggarChooser is a website dedicated to bringing together those who have money and are willing to donate, with
those who need help and are not ashamed to ask.
How much does it cost to become a member?
-
BeggarChooser membership is absolutely free.
How much does it cost to create a BegPost?
-
Begging is absolutely free.
Do I need a Paypal account?
-
Beggars must have an active Paypal e-mail address.
To donate, a Paypal account is optional; you may instead use your credit card.
How much of my donation does the beggar actually receive?
-
Generally, the beggar will receive about 95% of your donation. Paypal will take a part of your donation as a fee, which, depending on the size of your donation, is about 3%.
BeggarChooser will also take a percentage of your donation, which is pooled as a monthly reward for our top donors. This percentage is currently 2%.
Why would I want to donate? What's in it for me?
-
At the end of every month, BeggarChooser will give the entire proceedings from the 2% donation fee to the
member or members who donated the most. This reward
will be in the form of ChooserCredits, which carry the same value as U.S. dollars, and can be donated free of fees to
any beggar or number of beggars.
However, if you're not a member, or you're not signed in when you donate, you still get the satisfaction of helping someone in need!
What can I possibly beg for?
-
Anything, as long as it doesn't violate our Terms of Service. Some examples include:
- Charitable causes
- College tuition
- Family reunion funds
- Hospital stays
- Inventions
- Mission trips
- Necessities (food, gas money, etc.)
- Political campaigns
- Video games
- Vacations
Above all, be creative! Choosers are cautioned to donate at their own risk.
I have a question for the beggar. How do I contact them?
-
If you are logged in, you can ask questions on their View BegPost page.
Only after the beggar responds will your question and the response be posted for the
general public to view.
Are my donations tax-deductible?
-
It depends on the beggar. Use the above-described question/response form
to ask them.
I represent a business and would like to fully fund a beggar's request. How do I make this sponsorship publicly known?
-
After the BegPost request is matched (or time for the BegPost expires), the beggar can post a thank-you note which
will be visible to the general public from that point on. Use the above-described
question/response form to correspond with the beggar before
making your donation, and ask if they will agree to mentioning your business within the public thank-you note.
How does BeggarChooser stay in business?
-
Right now, it's supported by money out of the Admin's pocket. Soon we hope to be supported by sponsors.
Sponsors? So this site will display annoying ads in the future?
-
No. Sponsor information will only be available by clicking the Sponsors
link in the navigational menu. This helps to ensure that the site is easily accessible to users. It also allows our sponsors to feel comfortable
knowing that only interested visitors will visit them through BeggarChooser.
How do I become a BeggarChooser sponsor?
-
Daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly slots on our Sponsors page are available.
